January 19, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 8.24 paisa against the US dollar in Friday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 279.9 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 279.98 per USD.
The currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 280.4 and a low (ask) of 279.9.
In the open market, Exchange Companies quoted the dollar at 278.82 for buying and 280.98 for selling.
In comparison to major currencies, PKR gained 20.17 paisa against the Euro, closing at 304.47 compared to the previous value of 304.67.
The British Pound became cheaper by 30.06 paisa closing at 354.94 compared to 355.24 a day ago.
The Swiss franc saw losses of 1.38 rupees, closing at 322.28 compared to 323.66 from the previous session.
Against the Japanese Yen, PKR gained 0.65 paisa, closing at 1.8876 versus 1.8941 a day ago.
The Chinese Yuan gained 0.77 paisa, closing at 38.91 against 38.9 from the previous session.
The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.63 with a loss of 2.4 paisa from its value of 74.65 a day ago.
The U.A.E Dirham decreased in value by 2.34 paisa from 76.21 a day ago to 76.23.
During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 6.09 rupees or 2.18%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 1.96 rupees or 0.7%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 20.44% and 20.69%.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo and Shariah-compliant Modarabah-based Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it cumulatively injected a total of Rs2.17 trillion into the market.
Out of the total amount, Rs2.09tr was injected through reverse repo OMO.
Meanwhile, the remaining Rs82 billion was injected through Shariah-compliant Modarabah-based OMO.
