PKR gains around 5 paisa against USD

September 27, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 4.79 paisa or 0.02% against the US dollar in Friday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 277.64 per USD, compared to previous closing of 277.69.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 277.85 and a low (ask) of 277.75.

On a weekly basis, the home unit gained 20 paisa against the mighty Dollar.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 278.67 for buying and 280.30 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR lost 16.88 paisa against the Euro, closing at 309.19 compared to the previous value of 309.02.

The British Pound became expensive by 92.17 paisa closing at 371.25 compared to 370.32 from a day ago.

The Swiss franc saw gains of 85.2 paisa, closing at 328.08 compared to 327.23 from the previous session.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 1.79 paisa, closing at 1.9329 versus 1.915 a day ago.

The Chinese Yuan gained 3.72 paisa, closing at 39.59 against 39.55 from the previous session.

The Saudi Riyal remained unchanged 74.02.

The U.A.E Dirham decreased in value by 1.3 paisa from 75.59 a day ago to 75.6.

During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 70.22 paisa or 0.25%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 4.22 rupees or 1.52%.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates dropped by 46 bps to 15.18% and 15.43%.

Meanwhile, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo and Shariah Compliant Modarabah based Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it injected a total of Rs1.59 trillion into the market.
