October 25, 2023 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 45.2 paisa against the US dollar in Wednesday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 279.88, compared to the previous day's closing of PKR 279.43.
The local unit saw an intraday high (bid) of 280 and a low (ask) of 279.4.
In the open market, the local unit lost 50 paisa as exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279 for buying and 282 for selling, compared to the previous closing of 278.5 for buying and 281.5 for selling.
It is important to mention that this marks the third straight session that the PKR has lost against the greenback.
In comparison to major currencies, PKR gained 87.64 paisa against the Euro, closing at 296.56 compared to the previous value of 297.44.
The British Pound became cheaper by 2.54 rupees, closing at 339.99 compared to 342.53 from a day ago.
Swiss franc saw losses of 19.53 paisa, closing at 313.07 compared to 313.26 from the previous session.
Against the Japanese Yen, PKR gained 0.14 paisa, closing at 1.867 versus 1.869 a day ago.
The Chinese Yuan gained 2.91 paisa, closing at 38.2593 against 38.2302 from the previous session.
The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.61 with a gain of 12.05 paisa from its value of 74.49 a day ago.
The U.A.E Dirham increased in value by 12.51 paisa from 76.075 a day ago to 76.2.
During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 6.11 rupees or 2.18%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR depreciate by 53.45 rupees or 19.1%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates were unchanged at 21.77% and 22.02%.
