PKR crosses 280 per USD

March 14, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) slipped to its 52-week low to close at 280.2153 per USD in today's interbank session, marking the weakest level for the currency over the past year, with a 0.96% depreciation from its 52-week high of 277.5179 recorded on October 4, 2024.

The currency has depreciated 0.06% in a day, 0.09% over the week, and 0.36% over the past month, indicating persistent pressure on the exchange rate.

Since the start of the fiscal year, the PKR has lost 0.59%, while its year-to-date decline stands at 0.67%.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 280.40 and a low (ask) of 280.10.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 280.5 for buying and 282 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR strengthened 80.53 paisa or 0.26% against the Euro, closing at 303.63 compared to the previous value of 304.43.

Against the British Pound, PKR rose by 58.95 paisa or 0.16% to 362.23 compared to 362.82 a day ago.

The local unit rose 84.20 paisa or 0.26% against Swiss franc to close at 316.97.

Compared to the Japanese Yen, PKR's value gained 1.16 paisa or 0.61%, which allowed the session to close at 1.8832 versus 1.8948 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee depreciated 7.23 paisa or 0.19% against Chinese Yuan to close at 38.74 from 38.67.

The local currency decreased by 4.50 paisa or 0.06% against Saudi Riyal to 74.71. While it decreased by 4.50 paisa or 0.06% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 76.30.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has depreciated against the US Dollar by 1.87 rupees or 0.67%. While it has weakened 1.67 rupees or 0.59% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 1bps to 11.76% and 12.01%.
