Pakistan to boost energy sector with World Bank cooperation

April 11, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan’s energy sector is poised for progress through strategic partnerships and technical support, as discussed in a meeting between Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and the World Bank’s Regional Director for South Asia, Pankaj Gupta, in Islamabad.

The meeting concentrated on accelerating sustainable energy development, enhancing infrastructure, and addressing challenges in the oil and gas sectors.

Ali Pervaiz reiterated the government’s commitment to modernizing the energy landscape through integrated energy planning, improved efficiency, and clean energy initiatives.

Pankaj Gupta affirmed the World Bank’s continued support for Pakistan’s energy reforms and expressed optimism about expanding cooperation, as per the press release.

The World Bank delegation also met with Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari in Islamabad, where they discussed ongoing energy sector reforms, privatization, and opportunities for long-term collaboration.

The Minister emphasized the government's active promotion of public-private partnerships to better harness investment and technical expertise.
