Pakistan, Sri Lanka eye stronger cooperation, high-level engagements

February 12, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Sri Lanka have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations through high-level exchanges and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.

This understanding was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit in Dubai, marking their first in-person interaction.

The two leaders acknowledged the deep-rooted historical ties between their nations and emphasized the need to build on existing goodwill.

Discussions covered key areas of cooperation, including trade, defense, security, education, religious tourism, and sports, according to the press release.

President Dissanayake expressed appreciation for the longstanding, brotherly relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, recalling fond memories of the 1996 Cricket World Cup final held in Lahore.
