October 14, 2024 (MLN): Pakistan is gearing up to host the 23rd meeting of the Council of the Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Islamabad on October 15 and 16.
During a media briefing on Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced the upcoming summit, highlighting the effective collaboration among various institutions and departments to ensure its successful execution.
The summit is set to attract prime ministers and high-ranking officials from SCO member states, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and the First Vice President of Iran.
Additionally, the External Affairs Minister of India and Premier Li Qiang from China will represent their respective countries.
The agenda will focus on enhancing cooperation across several key sectors, such as economy, trade, environment, and socio-cultural linkages, while also reviewing the organization's overall performance.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is anticipated to hold significant bilateral meetings with heads of delegations on the sidelines, fostering stronger ties among member nations.
Established on June 15, 2001, the SCO aims to promote multilateral cooperation, ensure peace and security, and establish a new international economic order. With preparations underway, Pakistan is poised to play a crucial role in advancing regional collaboration during this high-profile event.
