The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Thursday approved Rs 2.99 per unit cut in power tariff under monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism for December 2017.

The regulator approved the tariff reduction on a petition filed by Central Power Purchase Agency Guarantee Ltd (CPPA-G).

The CPPA-G, in its petition, sought Rs. 2.77 per unit reduction in the tariff for the said month, maintaining that that the total cost per unit stood at Rs. 5.32 kWh against the reference fuel charges of Rs 8.103 kWh.

The CPPA-G also sought previous adjustment of Rs 969.88 million or Rs 0.124 per unit on account of supplemental charges but it was turned down.

The consumers will get a relief of over Rs. 21.7 billion. However, reduction will be not applicable to the K-Electric and agricultural consumers as well as domestic users, consuming less than 300 units per month.
