Money supply in the economy grows by 4% MoM in March

May 12, 2020 (MLN): The total money supply circulating within the economy during March 2020 stood at Rs. 19.06 trillion, which is almost 4% higher as compared to the Rs 18.41 trillion reported in February 2020, and 15% as compared to Rs. 16.5 trillion recorded in the same month of last year.

According to the provisional data on Monetary Aggregates for the month released by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), a total of Rs 5.6 trillion were circulated as notes while Rs 10.14 trillion accounted for transferable deposits, showing a growth of 5% and 4% respectively.

Apart from this, other deposits, which represent all claims other than transferable deposits in national or foreign currency that are represented by evidence of deposits, constituted Rs.3.25 trillion during the month.

Meanwhile, total coins in circulation posted a slight growth of 4% MoM, from Rs. 9.03 billion to Rs. 9.22 billion.

Furthermore, Rs. 24849 billion worth of deposits were held with post offices while National Saving Schemes held Rs. 3.84 trillion during the month.
