LSMI output surges by 15.69% MoM in December

February 15, 2024 (MLN): Pakistan’s Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) production surged by 15.69% MoM in December 2023 to stand at 132.87 compared to 114.85 in November 2023, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported today.

Similarly, on a yearly basis, the LSMI output witnessed an increase of 3.43% YoY against 128.47 recorded in December 2022.

Cumulatively in 6MFY24, LSMI has shown a decline of 0.39% when compared with the same period of last year.

The main contributors to the overall drop of 0.39% are Food (0.76), Tobacco (-0.73), Textile (-2.05) Garments (2.26), Paper & Board (-0.12), Petroleum Products (0.55), Chemicals (0.30), Pharmaceuticals (1.43), Cement (0.12), Iron & Steel Products (-0.07), Electrical Equipment (-0.38), Automobiles (-1.70) and Furniture (-1.05).

The production in 6MFY24 as compared to 6MFY23  has increased in Food, Beverages, Wearing apparel, Coke & Petroleum Products, Chemicals, Fertilizers, Pharmaceuticals, Non Metallic Mineral Products, Machinery and Equipment and Other Manufacturing (Football).

Meanwhile, it decreased in Tobacco, Textile, Iron & Steel Products, Electrical Equipment, Automobiles, Other Transport Equipment and Furniture.

The provisional quantum indices of Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) for December 2023 with the base year 2015-16 have been developed based on the latest data supplied by the source agencies.
