Inflation slows to 1.5% in February

March 03, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan's inflation slowed to 1.5% in February 2025, compared to 2.4% in the previous month and 23.1% in February 2024, the latest data issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed.

On a sequential basis, inflation decreased by 0.8% compared to the previous month's increase of 0.2%.

Accordingly, the average yearly inflation for 8MFY25 is 5.85%, compared to 28% in 8MFY24.

The annual rise in the consumer price index (CPI) was lower than our estimated number of 1.9%.

In urban areas of Pakistan, CPI inflation declined to 1.8% YoY in February 2025, down from 2.7% in the previous month and 24.9% in February 2024. On a MoM basis, it fell by 0.7%, compared to a 0.2% increase in January 2025 and February 2024.

In rural areas, CPI inflation dropped to 1.1% YoY, compared to 1.9% in January and 20.5% in February 2024. MoM, it declined by 1.1%, following a 0.2% rise in the previous month and a 0.3% decrease in February 2024.

SPI inflation fell to 0.2% YoY in February 2025, down from 0.7% in the prior month and 30.4% in February 2024. On a MoM basis, it declined by 1.6%, compared to a 1.4% decrease in January and 0.8% in the same month last year.

WPI inflation eased to 0.7% YoY, slightly higher than 0.6% in January but significantly lower than 18.7% in February 2024. MoM, it declined by 0.2%, following a 0.2% increase in the previous month and a 1.1% change in February 2024.
