Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea's largest carmaker by sales, informed on Monday, that its August sales rose by 9.2 percent from a year earlier due to recovering demand in China.

Hyundai Motor sold 384,443 vehicles in August, up from 352,078 units sold a year earlier, the company said in a statement.

The monthly sales increased on a base effect as the carmaker's sales suffered sharp declines throughout last year due to a diplomatic row between Seoul and Beijing over a U.S. anti-missile system, a company spokesman said.

Domestic sales advanced by 7.4 percent to 58,682 units last month from sales of 54,560 units during the previous

Overseas sales were up by 9.5 percent to 325,861 from 297,518 during the same period, it said.

In the second half, Hyundai said it expects the all-new Santa Fe sport utility vehicle and the facelifted Tucson SUV that will be sold in China to boost overall sales.

In the January-August period, sales gained 3.9 percent to 2.97 million autos from 2.86 million units a year earlier, the company said.
