Govt scrutinizes previous power deals amid rising tariff concerns

July 23, 2024 (MLN): While addressing issues related to the high tariff rate in the country, Minister for Power Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari highlighted that the agreements made by previous governments with Independent Power Producers are currently under review.

Talking to a private channel, he said reforms in the power sector are imperative to bring electricity tariff rate at affordable price, the Information Ministry reported.

Minister for Power Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari further said that the government is taking all possible measures to bring reforms in the power sector to reduce the tariff rate.

He said we are reviewing the agreements made by the previous governments with Independent Power Producers.

"It is the top most priority of the government to lower burden from consumers of electricity and for this all necessary steps are being taken to achieve the objectives," the Minister added.
