Pakistan proposes ceasefire plan between Iran, U.S.A

April 6, 2026 (MLN):  Pakistan has presented a plan to Iran and the United States aimed at ending hostilities and potentially reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

The proposed framework, developed by Pakistan, outlines a two-tier approach: an immediate ceasefire followed by a comprehensive agreement.

According to Reuters, a source emphasized that all elements of the plan would need to be agreed upon promptly, with the initial understanding structured as a memorandum of understanding finalized electronically through Pakistan, the sole channel for communication

Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, has reportedly been in continuous contact with U.S. Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, Reuter’s source reported.

Under the proposed plan, the ceasefire would take effect immediately, allowing the Strait of Hormuz to reopen.

Negotiations would continue for 15–20 days to finalize a broader settlement, tentatively called the "Islamabad Accord." The accord would also include a regional framework for managing the strait, with final in-person talks expected in Islamabad.

Iran has previously indicated it seeks a permanent ceasefire with guarantees against future attacks by the U.S. and Israel.

Mediators, including Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt, have reportedly been in communication with Tehran.

The final agreement is expected to include Iranian commitments not to pursue nuclear weapons in exchange for sanctions relief and the release of frozen assets.

Despite intensified diplomatic efforts, Iranian officials have not yet committed to the proposal.
