Govt plans new policy to support local auto manufacturing

March 27, 2025 (MLN): A new policy aimed at boosting the local production of automobile parts will soon be introduced to strengthen the domestic industry, said Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan.
Speaking to a delegation of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad, he emphasized the importance of enhancing local manufacturing.
He stated that under the Prime Minister’s vision, new job opportunities will be created through the growth of manufacturing industries and the localization of automobile parts.
He further informed the delegation that a new research and development policy is under consideration to encourage investment in innovation and support the development of local industries.
The government, he added, is committed to improving the efficiency and performance of the manufacturing sector to drive economic growth, according to the press release.
Haroon Akhtar Khan assured full government support for the development of industries and technological advancements.
The meeting also discussed the significance of technological upgrades and support for industrialists.
Meanwhile, chairing a separate meeting with a delegation of the Utility Stores Corporation in Islamabad, the Special Assistant stressed the need for strict monitoring and improvements in the performance of Utility Stores.
The meeting focused on measures to enhance the efficiency of Pakistan’s largest retail network.
Haroon Akhtar Khan made it clear that the government will not tolerate corruption in any department and will ensure transparency at all levels.
It was revealed in the meeting that following the restructuring of Utility Stores, the number of outlets will be reduced from 3,742 to 1,563.
This move aims to improve the corporation’s efficiency and reduce the financial burden on the national treasury.
The Special Assistant reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing services provided by Utility Stores and stabilizing the financial position of the corporation through restructuring and performance improvement measures.
