April 20, 2024 (MLN): Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue yesterday urged the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to assist the government in transitioning the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) to a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, citing increased IFC activities in the country.
A press statement released yesterday revealed that the Finance Minister stated this during a meeting with Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of IFC.
He expressed appreciation towards the IFC for its assistance in the outsourcing of Islamabad airport, with plans to extend this initiative to Lahore and Karachi.
During the meeting, he informed Makhtar Diop that broadening tax reforms, fixing the energy sector and undertaking SOE reforms as key priorities of the government.
He further briefed him on the positive economic indicators of the country including improving foreign exchange reserves, stable currency, declining inflation, surging stock market and institutional/ foreign inflows into the market.
He informed that Pakistan wanted to enter into a larger and extended program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to achieve macroeconomic stability.
