Finance Division denies link between deceased Chinese engineers, IPP talks

October 09, 2024 (MLN): The Finance Division has clarified news media reports linking the two deceased Chinese engineers killed in an explosion in Karachi, to the ongoing IPP talks.

In an official statement, the Finance Division clarified that while the government has been in discussions with various IPPs, including the power plant where the engineers were employed, the deceased were not involved in these negotiations.

The statement emphasized that any claims linking the engineers' deaths to the IPP talks are misleading and without merit.

"However, the deceased engineers were not involved in the IPP talks," it reads.

Hence, any impression created to this effect by media reports is misleading and has no basis, it added.

This clarification came in response to widespread media speculation wherein it was reported that Chinese engineers killed in a recent suicide attack in Karachi were part of ongoing energy debt restructuring negotiations with the Pakistani government.
