February imports depict growth of 10 percent, YoY: PBS

March 18, 2019 (MLN): Imports into Pakistan during the month of February, 2019 amounted to Rs. 579,039 million (provisional), as against Rs. 624,644 million (provisional) in January, 2019, and Rs. 526,141 million during February, 2018 showing a decrease of 7.30% over January, 2019 but an increase of 10.05% over February, 2018.

In terms of US dollars, the imports in February, 2019 stood at $4,180 million (provisional) as compared to $4,504 million (provisional) in January, 2019, showing a decrease of 7.19% and by 12.26% as compared to $4,764 million in February, 2018.

Imports during July-February, 2018 -2019 totaled Rs. 4,808,389 million (provisional) as against Rs. 4,180,430 million during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 15.02%.

In terms of US dollars the imports during July -February, 2018 -2019 totaled $36,636 million (provisional) as against $39,029 million during the corresponding period of last year showing a decrease of 6.13%.

Main commodities of imports during February, 2019 were Petroleum products (Rs. 49,612 million), Petroleum crude (Rs. 45,450 million), Natural Gas Liquefied (Rs. 29,791 million), Plastic materials (Rs. 26,399 million), Iron & steel (Rs. 22,124 million), Raw cotton (Rs. 19,727 million), Power generating machinery (Rs. 19,049 million), Palm oil (Rs. 18,630 million), Electrical machinery & apparatus (Rs. 17,585 million)and Iron & steel scrap (Rs. 14,340 million).
