FDI plummets by 58.7% YoY in 1HFY23 amid economic uncertainty

January 19, 2023 (MLN): On the back of rising economic and political uncertainty, the inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Pakistan during 1HFY23 plunged by 58.7% YoY to $461 million, compared to $1.11 billion during the same period last year, the latest data released by the central bank showed on Wednesday.

In December 2022 alone, the FDI turned negative as the total outflows stood at $17mn compared to 229.8mn inflows in December 2021.

Within the direct investments, there was an inflow of $222mn and an outflow of $239mn during the month under review.

Meanwhile, the country witnessed outflows of $15.1mn from foreign private investment compared to $186.1mn in terms of foreign private investment.
