FDI drops by 29% MoM to $122.46m in October

Foreign Direct Investment into Pakistan jumps 17% in FY24

November 20, 2023 (MLN): Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan stood at $122.46 million in October 2023, registering a decrease of 29.05% MoM compared to $172.6m in September 2023.,the latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.

On a year-on-year basis, FDI has decreased by 12.59% YoY compared to FDI of $140.1 reported in October 2022.

On a commutative basis, the FDI stood at $524.7m in 4MFY24, up by $34.8m or 7.11% YoY.

Within the direct investments in the review month, there was an inflow of $174.19m, down by 2.27% YoY, while the outflow increased to $51.73m, up by over 35.69% YoY.

With respect to the portfolio investment under FDI, an inflow of $1.38m was witnessed through equity securities, as compared to the net selling of equity securities worth $2.62m in October 2022.

The foreign private investment into the country amounted to $123.84m in October 2023, which dropped by 9.92% YoY compared to $137.48m in October 2022.

Meanwhile, foreign public investment stood at $2.95m during the review month.

Accordingly, the total foreign investment in the review month clocked in at $126.79m, compared to $137.64m in October 2022, down by 7.88% YoY.

On a cumulative basis, within 4MFY24, total foreign investment increased by 17.81% YoY to $538.81m as compared to FDI of $457.34m reported in the corresponding period last year.
