March 01, 2025 (MLN): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has fallen short of its tax collection target by over Rs600 billion for the first eight months of the fiscal year 2024-25.
According to a senior official from the FBR, the board managed to collect Rs 7.34 trillion from July to February 2024-25, against the assigned target of Rs7.94tr, resulting in a gap of Rs601bn.
In February 2025 alone, the FBR's tax collection amounted to Rs850bn, missing the target of Rs983bn and reflecting a shortfall of Rs133bn.
It is important to note that the FBR had already experienced a shortfall of Rs468bn during 7MFY25. This shortfall was primarily due to a slowdown in the growth of revenue collection, which had been anticipated at the time of the budget for 2024-25.
