ECC approves Rs540mn for food-related supply in flood-affected areas

September 08, 2022 (MLN): The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet approved Rs540 million for Utility Stores Corporation (USC) for the provision of supply of essential commodities in flood-affected areas.

The ECC meeting, chaired by Finance Minister Mr. Miftah Ismail approved Rs3bn to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to meet expenditure on rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the calamity-stricken population across Pakistan.

In light of the summary moved by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, ECC allowed Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation Limited (PASSCO) to provide wheat among all recipients with a ratio of 50% local and 50% imported. However, USC will be provided wheat at 75% local and 25% imported.

Further, it approved a funding requirement of Rs1,009mn for the running cost/salary of the staff of three Pakistani hospitals in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the ECC also gave the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) a go-ahead to initiate the process for the import of 300,000 MT of Urea on a G2G basis for the Rabi season 2022-23.
