DGKC on a roll: Shipped second cement consignment to USA

January 19, 2023 (MLN): Adding another feather to the cap, DG Khan Cement (PSX: DGKC) on Wednesday successfully shipped the second consignment of high-quality cement to the USA on vessel Abu Al Abyad. 

In the year 2022, the company secured an order from a Group in the USA to supply 600,000 tons of high-quality low alkali Cement. 1st consignment of 50,000 tons shipped in June 2022 to the USA, said a press statement issued by the company.

That was for the first time in the history of Pakistan to export Cement to the sophisticated USA market. On arrival of the first ship "Tomni Felicity" in the USA, customers were satisfied with its quality and demanded for continuing with the shipments. 

"Getting to this stage was not a piece of cake", according to the Director of Marketing of the company. 

"It was in August 2021 when we visited the USA to secure this order, subsequently the customer's representatives visited our cement plant at Hub and asked to supply high-quality low-alkali cement that was developed especially for USA customers," he added.

It took a period of six months to obtain the technical certifications from USA authorities like "TXDOT", "NCDOT", "SCOOT" and "LODOT". It was a great achievement and honor on part of the Pakistan cement industry that opened the gates to the huge USA market.

It is for the first time ever that a Pakistani cement manufacturer has entered into the US market as the demand for construction materials in the USA has increased manifolds with buyers looking for new sources of supply following President Biden's $6 trillion infrastructure package.

Under this package, all mega infrastructure projects including freeways, bridges, and roads will be rebuilt or given facelifts as some of these were constructed almost a century ago.

Looking at the response from USA customers, "INTERCEM" invited Company Director Marketing, Mr. Farid Fazal to make a presentation at the International Cement Conference in Houston which generated a large number of inquiries from prospective customers.

DGKCC under Nishat Group is amongst the largest cement manufacturers in Pakistan with a production capacity of 25,000 tons of cement per day (7.500 million tons/annum). The company has three cement plants located at Dera Ghazi Khan, Kalar Kahar, and Hub.

Plants and equipment are supplied by renowned European suppliers and are based on the latest Dry Process Technology.

DGKCC is the first to use innovative technologies in the cement industry.
