May 26, 2021 (MLN): The total DAP offtake during the month of April 2021 stood at 46 thousand tonnes, registering a decrease of 69.7 percent as compared with the same timeframe of last year.

The reason for the low offtake of DAP was its high prices in domestic as well in the international markets.

Fertilizer dealers and importers were expecting a decrease in prices in the international market and some relief in kind of subsidy from the government side, as per the monthly report issued by National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC).

Province-wise, DAP offtake decreased in Punjab, Sindh, KP and Balochistan by 64, 85, 54 and 66 percent, respectively.

The total availability of DAP during April 2021 was 179 thousand tonnes which comprised 55 thousand tonnes of opening inventory, 71 thousand tonnes of domestic production and 53 thousand tonnes of imported supplies. DAP offtake was 46 thousand tonnes. The closing balance for April 2021 was 113 thousand tonnes.

OUTLOOK FOR KHARIF 2021

As regards DAP, Kharif 2021 started with an opening balance of 55 thousand tonnes. Domestic production during the season is estimated to be 421 thousand tonnes and imported supplies of 581 thousand tonnes. Thus, the total availability of DAP will be around 1,057 thousand tonnes. The demand for DAP is projected at around 956 thousand tonnes. There will be a buffer stock of 101 thousand tonnes at the end of Kharif 2021, the report said.
