DAP offtake records a 21 percent growth despite govt’s lockdown policy

April 27, 2020 (MLN): The overall DAP offtake during March 2020 was about 79 thousand tonnes, which recorded an increase of 21.0 percent over March 2019.

According to monthly data released by the National Fertilizer Development Center, the cumulative offtake during Rabi 2019-20 was 1079 thousand tonnes, showing a decrease of 7.3 percent over the same time frame of the previous season.

DAP offtake increased by 10, 53, and 241 percent in provinces of Punjab, Sindh, and KP while it decreased by 9 percent in Balochistan as compared to March 2019.

The total availability of DAP was 580 thousand tonnes during March 2020, which comprised of 473 thousand tonnes of opening inventory, 38 thousand tonnes of domestic production, and 69 thousand tonnes of imported supplies. DAP offtake was about 79 thousand tonnes. The closing balance at the end of March was 500 thousand tonnes.

Outlook

Kharif 2020 started with an opening stock of 500 thousand tonnes of DAP. Domestic production is estimated at around 420 thousand tonnes and offtake is expected around 956 thousand tones leaving an inventory of 51 thousand tonnes at the end of Kharif 2020.
