Govt to shift KP load management from feeders to transformers

November 04, 2026 (MLN): The government
has agreed to reduce load shedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and extend hours
of electricity supply to high-loss areas that previously faced prolonged
outages, as it rolls out the Transformer-Based Load Management System across
the province.
Under the system, the
conventional practice of shutting down entire feeders will be phased out, with
load management shifted directly to individual transformers.
The federal leadership
expressed hope that the public would reciprocate the goodwill gesture by
clearing outstanding electricity dues and supporting the campaign against power
theft, so that the improved supply can be sustained without interruption.
The decision was taken at
a consultative meeting in Islamabad co-chaired by Minister for Power Division
Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, aimed at finding sustainable solutions to the
province’s power and energy challenges, said a press release issued.
Sardar Awais Leghari said
the transformer-based system is being actively implemented across KP.
Faisal Karim Kundi gave an
overview of the province’s energy situation and pressed for a meaningful cut in
the duration of load shedding, particularly in high-loss and hard-hit areas,
after which Sardar Awais Leghari agreed to the relief, putting public interest
first.
The meeting was held to
improve the energy situation and provide relief to the public in close
collaboration with the provincial administration.
The federal government and
KP leadership agreed to stay in close coordination to ensure timely execution
of the agreed roadmap and deliver prompt, lasting relief to the people of the
province.
