November 04, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan,
Türkiye have agreed to deepen trade ties, with Ankara agreeing to send a
delegation of officials to Pakistan to review existing bilateral trade
mechanisms and explore practical steps to improve commercial relations.
Türkiye also assured full
support for increasing imports of Pakistani mangoes, while Pakistan invited
Turkish companies to set up industrial units on the 1,000 acres earmarked for
them in Karachi Industrial Park.
Islamabad also thanked
Ankara for backing its legitimate claims over Basmati rice, and Türkiye
stressed the need for effective marketing and branding of Pakistani Basmati in
its market.
The understanding came
during a bilateral meeting between Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan
and Türkiye’s Minister of Trade Prof Dr Ömer Bolat on the sidelines of the 42nd
Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation
(COMCEC) in Istanbul, said a press release issued.
The two ministers
reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade relations and stressed
sustained institutional engagement, closer business cooperation and better
coordination to turn economic opportunities into concrete trade and investment
outcomes.
Jam Kamal Khan also sought
Turkish support in facilitating greater market access for Pakistani mangoes and
urged continued cooperation in protecting and promoting the country’s premium
agricultural products abroad.
Separately, Jam Kamal Khan
met Director General of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and
Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk on the
sidelines of the session.
She briefed him on
SESRIC’s ongoing activities, research initiatives and reports on trade among
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, as well as its role in
providing statistical information and analysis to support economic cooperation.
Jam Kamal Khan stressed
that accurate, reliable and clean data is critical for research and policy
analysis, and said credible statistics would help member states spot emerging
trade trends, understand market dynamics, assess trade potential, uncover untapped
opportunities and address trade barriers to boost intra-OIC trade.
He called for stronger
research-based cooperation and wider use of reliable trade statistics for
informed decision-making and greater economic integration across the OIC.
