Car sales fall 18.46% in August over the previous month

September 11, 2018 (MLN): Automotive Industry in Pakistan has sold a total of 15,389 units of passenger cars in the month of August 2018, compared to sales of 18,875 units in the previous month, an 18.46 percent fall in sales compared to the previous month.

According to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) on Tuesday, majority of these sales relate to the sale of cars that are of 1300 CC and above, with a total of 8,028 such cars sold in August. Among these, the sale of Toyota Corolla takes the lead with 4,204 units sold in that month, compared to 3,469 units sold of Honda cars (Civic and City). In this category, sales of Suzuki Swift fare the worst, with only 355 units sold in August.

Likewise, sales of 1000 CC cars were recorded at 3,830 units in that month, with the bulk of those sales attributed to Suzuki WagonR of which a total of 2,450 units were sold in August, compared to the 1,380 units sold of Suzuki Cultus, the only other car in this category.

Cars that are of 800 CC and those below 1000 CC saw sales of 3,531 units, with 2,318 units of Suzuki Mehran sold, followed by 1,213 units of Suzuki Bolan.

Sale of Trucks on the other hand has been recorded at 615 units in August, with the highest sales recorded for Hino at 260 units, followed by Isuzu and Master with 255 units and 100 units sold respectively.

Sale of Isuzu buses, however took the first spot with respect to the sale of buses in August with sales of 46 units during August, followed by 31 units of Hino and 30 units of Master, cumulating into a total of 107 units of buses sold in that month.

With respect to jeeps, a total of 696 units were sold in August, with the bulk of it coming from the sale of Honda  BR-V, 492 units of which have been sold in that month, followed by sale of 204 units of Toyota Fortuner.
