Car sales double in May 2024

June 11, 2024 (MLN): Car sales in Pakistan increased by 100.4% YoY in May 2024, clocking in at 10,949 units compared to 5,464 units recorded in the same month of last year, the latest data from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) showed today.

Similarly, on a month-on-month basis, the sales of cars, including LCVs, vans, and jeeps, have increased by 4.1% compared to the 10,515 cars sold in April 2024.

Cumulatively, in 11MFY24, sales clocked in at 90,542 units, around 25.1% YoY lower compared to 120,845 units sold in 11MFY23.

Breaking up the data, during the review month, passenger car sales increased by 115.7% YoY to 8,487 units compared to 3,934 units recorded in the same month of last year.

On a monthly basis, passenger car sales fell 4.4%.

The total production of passenger cars was recorded at 8,472 units in June, up 66.3% YoY compared to 5,093 units made in the same month of last year.

The data released by PAMA further showed that the maximum number of passenger car sales was made within the ‘Below 1000cc’ category at 4,509 units in May 2024.

Within this category, Suzuki Alto recorded the highest sales at 4,062 units, followed by Suzuki Bolan with sales of 447 units.

The second highest number of sales was made within the ‘1300cc and Above’ category at 3,496 units during the review month.

Toyota (Corolla & Yaris) led sales with 1,562 units in this category, followed by Honda Cars (Civic & City) with sales of 1,049 units, Suzuki Swift with 714 units, and Hyundai Elantra with 108 units.

Moreover, the '1000 cc' segment witnessed a sale of 482 units in May 2024.

In this category, Suzuki WagonR recorded the highest sales at 253 units, followed by Suzuki Cultus with sales of 229 units.
