Weekly SPI increases by 1.31%

September 02, 2022 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the combined group increased by 1.31% during the week ended September 01, 2022, while the SPI increased by 45.5% compared to the corresponding period from last year. 

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the combined index was at 222.85 compared to 219.97 on August 25, 2022, while the index was recorded at 153.16 a year ago, on September 02, 2021

Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 31 items increased, 3 items decreased whereas 17 items registered no change during the week. 

The increase is observed in the prices of food items, Onions (42.17%), Tomatoes (13.25%), Pulse Moong (7.94%), and Potatoes (6.97%). Meanwhile, the year-on-year trend depicts an increase of 45.50% YoY. 

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 1.2% and 1.63%.

The lowest income group witnessed a weekly increase of 1.63% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 1.2%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 38.73% and 46.1%.

Yearly SPI for the lowest income group increased by 38.73% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 46.1%.

The average price of sona urea stood at Rs.2436 per 50 kg bag which is 1.08% higher than last week’s price and 36.17% higher when compared last year.

Meanwhile, the average cement price was recorded at Rs.1035 per 50 kg bag, which is 0% lower than the previous week and 53.79% higher than prices last year.
