Weekly SPI increases by 0.82%

August 05, 2022 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group inched higher by 0.82% during the week ended Aug 04, 2022 while the SPI surged by 37.79% compared to the corresponding period from last year, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

As per the PBS inflation report, this increase was mainly on account of an increase in the prices of food items, LPG and diesel.

The combined index was at 209.17 compared to 207.47 on Jul 28, 2022 while the index was recorded at 151.8 a year ago, on Aug 12, 2021

Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 33 items increased including onions (24.92%), tomatoes (11.93%), pulse moong (5.72%), pulse mash (5.28%), potatoes (5.03%), pulse masoor (4.43%), pulse gram (2.69%), eggs (2.44%), powdered milk (1.61%), gur (1.53%), salt (1.46%) and garlic (1.30%), diesel (3.78%) and LPG (1.49%).

While only the prices of 4 items decreased that included chicken (5.08%), bananas (3.40%), petrol (1.29%) and vegetable ghee 1 kg (0.15%). 14 items registered no change during the week.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 0.69% and 1.16%.

The lowest income group witnessed a weekly increase of 1.16% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.69%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 32.03% and 37.97%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 32.03% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 37.97%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs.2413 per 50 kg bag which is 0.86% lower than last week’s price and 35.64% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the average Cement price was recorded at Rs.1041 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.1% lower than the previous week and 54.91% higher than prices last year.
