November 25, 2025 (MLN): The U.S. and China discussed a broad slate of global and bilateral issues during a phone call between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping on Monday, signaling a fresh push toward deeper cooperation.

President Trump acknowledged the discussion on Truth Social, noting that the two leaders covered topics ranging from the Russia-Ukraine conflict to fentanyl enforcement efforts and agricultural trade, according to CNBC.

He highlighted progress on farm-related negotiations, saying the outcome would deliver meaningful benefits for American producers and “only continue to improve.”

Trump also shared that both sides had agreed to resume regular in-person diplomacy.

He is set to visit Beijing in April for a bilateral meeting, with a state visit for President Xi in the United States to follow later in the year. “We agreed it’s essential to stay in close communication,” Trump wrote.

China’s Foreign Ministry described the call as part of the ongoing implementation of commitments made at the leaders’ meeting in Busan last month.

Those earlier agreements included U.S. plans to scale back certain tariffs on Chinese goods and China’s decision to pause additional export controls on rare earth minerals moves that have eased friction in the long-running trade dispute.

The leaders also addressed the war in Ukraine, as Washington continues discussions with Kyiv on a potential peace framework the Trump administration hopes to see finalized by Thanksgiving.

President Xi reiterated China’s position that it supports “all efforts conducive to peace.”

On Taiwan, Xi reaffirmed China’s stance that the island should eventually “return to China.”

Trump acknowledged the sensitivity of the issue and said the United States “understands how important the Taiwan question is to China.”

The ministry also noted Trump’s comment that Xi is “a great leader”, as reported by CNBC.

The call emphasized a notable shift toward more frequent and direct engagement between USA and China, following years of strained ties.

Both governments signaled that Monday’s conversation laid the groundwork for a more stable and constructive phase in the relationship.
