August 17, 2026 (MLN): US President Donald Trump
praised Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan for signing the Mecca Joint Defence
Agreement, calling it proof that the Middle East is coming together and that
the three nations will now be able to defend themselves more meaningfully.
He described the development as a big, bold, and
important first step, extending congratulations to the leadership of all
three countries for what he termed great leadership.
The remarks were shared by President Trump on Truth
Social, where he wrote that he was very happy to see the three nations finally
sign the pact, noting that the agreement had come together after a long-awaited
process.
In his post, President Trump underlined that the pact
reflects a broader shift toward regional unity, framing it as evidence that
Middle Eastern nations are moving in the direction of greater self-reliance on
defence matters.
He reiterated his congratulations to the leadership of
Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan, singling out the significance of the three
countries acting together on the agreement.
The president closed his remarks with emphatic praise
for the milestone, repeating that it represented a big, bold, and important
first step for the region.
Recently, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement,
establishing a trilateral security framework aimed at strengthening collective
defence and regional stability.
The agreement comes as the three Sunni Muslim allies of
the United States respond to escalating regional tensions that have seen Gulf
oil-exporting states targeted by missile attacks and disruptions to energy
shipments.
According to a joint statement, the pact is designed to
reinforce collective deterrence against external aggression.
It states that any armed attack on one of the three
countries will be treated as an attack on all members of the agreement.
