Toyota to invest $10bn in U.S., expanding manufacturing and jobs

November 13, 2025 (MLN):  Japan’s Toyota will invest $10 billion in the United States over the next five years, expanding its manufacturing footprint and bringing total U.S. investments to nearly $60bn since the company began operations in the country nearly 70 years ago.

This coincides with the opening of Toyota’s first U.S. factory producing lithium-ion batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles in North Carolina, its eleventh U.S. manufacturing facility, representing an investment of nearly $14bn and the creation of up to 5,100 new jobs, APP reported.

The investment follows earlier remarks by President Donald Trump, who said Toyota planned to build new car plants in multiple states, though the company initially downplayed the $10bn figure.

Toyota has also indicated readiness to export vehicles made in its U.S. plants back to Japan if certification standards are harmonized.

The move comes amid broader trade negotiations between the U.S. and Japan, including a July agreement in which Tokyo pledged $550bn in U.S. investments in exchange for lowering Japanese car tariffs.

Despite recent U.S. tariffs, Toyota last week raised its operating income and net profit forecasts for the current fiscal year. Shares in Tokyo fell slightly, down 0.1% to 3,187 yen.
