SECP opens consultation on Research Analyst reforms

August 05, 2025 (MLN): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has released a notification inviting public feedback on proposed amendments to the Research Analyst Regulations, 2015.

The draft amendments aim to broaden the scope of research reports, mandate registration requirements for research analysts, extend the blackout period, enhance disclosures, such as target price and date, and introduce a code of communication for research analysts.

As part of the initiative, the Pakistan Stock Exchange will set up a dedicated research platform that will list companies and sectors covered by research analysts, as per the press release issued.

To formulate the proposed amendments, the SECP held extensive consultations with stakeholders including research analysts, brokerage houses, asset managers, and industry associations.

A consultation paper was also issued earlier to gather initial feedback, followed by a series of sessions to deliberate on the proposed changes.

The SECP emphasized its commitment to a transparent and robust consultation process, ensuring that all stakeholders have adequate opportunity to participate in the ongoing regulatory review.
