November 17, 2025 (MLN): Punjab’s Green Tractor Scheme moved into Jhelum, where 39 farmers from Jhelum, Dina and Sohawa received subsidised tractors under the provincial government’s agriculture-mechanisation drive.

Each tractor carried a government subsidy of Rs1million, marking one of the largest direct support interventions for small farmers in the district.

According to details shared at the distribution ceremony, 10 beneficiaries were selected from Tehsil Jhelum, 10 from Tehsil Dina and 19 from Tehsil Sohawa.

The scheme part of the Punjab government’s broader e-mechanisation initiative is designed to increase access to modern agricultural machinery as the province pushes to boost crop productivity, curb residue burning and limit winter smog, as per press release issued.

Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani said the availability of equipment such as super seeders, balers and Kubota machines is beginning to shift farming practices toward mechanised, cleaner operations.

Officials consider the initiative a key input for Pakistan’s agriculture sector, which remains central to industrial output, export earnings and rural employment.

Minster also referenced ongoing development and welfare projects in the district, including the Lilla–Jhelum Road, new health facilities at DHQ Jhelum, establishment of a THQ hospital in Dina and connectivity plans linking Jhelum to the Lahore–Sialkot Motorway. He added that the federal and provincial governments are reviewing long-pending requests for gas supply to Dina and Sohawa.

The Green Tractor Scheme is one of Punjab’s major agriculture-support measures this year, with provincial authorities positioning it as a way to reduce farmers’ equipment costs and modernise production in high-yield districts.
