Pakistan’s power generation declines 11% MoM in September 2025

October 23, 2025 (MLN): The total power generation in the country decreased by 11% month-on-month (MoM) to 12,592 GWh during September 2025, as compared to 14,218 GWh in August 2025.

However, according to the monthly electricity generation data released by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the total power generation increased by 0.8% year-on-year (YoY) as compared to 12,487 GWh in the same month of last year.

The cost of power generation fell by 15% YoY to Rs7.09/KWh and remained below the reference benchmark, due to lower oil prices.

Production from Nuclear and Solar rose by 40% and 3% YoY, respectively, while Hydel, Gas, wind, and Others saw changes of -1%, -5%, -13% and -25%, respectively. RLNG also posted a 11% decline YoY.

Local and imported coal were down 5% and 11% respectively.

Share-wise, Hydel led electricity generation during September 2025, contributing 38% of the total generation.

This was followed by Nuclear at 17.7%, RLNG at 14.4%, Local Coal at 9.5%, and Imported Coal at 8.1%.
