June 12, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan has been ranked 148th out of 148 countries in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2025, with a gender parity score of 56.7%, placing it at the bottom of the global index.

The report evaluates gender parity across four key pillars: Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment.

Pakistan’s overall performance shows minimal improvement from 2024, continuing to reflect deep-rooted disparities.

In the economic participation subindex, Pakistan holds one of the lowest scores globally at 34.7%, with women accessing less than one-third of the economic resources available to men.

The country also reports minimal gender parity in senior roles and workforce participation.

On the education front, literacy parity in Pakistan remains below 75%, placing it among the lower-scoring economies in the Southern Asia region.

While many countries have achieved near-full educational parity, Pakistan continues to trail behind.

The health and survival pillar indicates persistent gaps, and Pakistan’s score remains beneath several regional peers.

In the political empowerment dimension, Pakistan is among the few countries with an entirely male ministerial cabinet, and it shows some of the weakest representation of women in parliamentary roles.

While the global average gender parity has reached 68.8%, and some countries have closed over 90% of the gap, Pakistan's progress remains limited.

Based on current trends, the report estimates that full global gender parity could take another 123 years.
