Pakistan in talks with US on Tariff Concessions

July 28, 2025(MLN): Pakistan has entered a crucial phase
of negotiations with the United States to secure tariff concessions for
Made-in-Pakistan goods, a move that could unlock significant export
opportunities in the world’s largest economy.
Former Caretaker Federal Minister Dr. Gohar Ejaz shared this
development via X (formerly Twitter), expressing optimism about the potential
for Pakistani industries to become globally competitive.
Dr. Ejaz emphasized that such opportunities arise only
once in decades and must be fully leveraged to drive export-led growth and
generate employment for Pakistan’s 250 million citizens.
“Alhamdulillah, Pakistan is successfully negotiating
tariffs with the USA! The world’s largest economy, for Made in Pakistan goods.
Opportunities like this come once in decades,” Dr. Ejaz stated in a post on X
(formerly Twitter), underscoring the strategic importance of the negotiations.
He urged national stakeholders to focus on enhancing
industrial productivity and competitiveness, saying, “Let’s make our industry
globally competitive to drive export-led growth and create job opportunities
and prosperity for 250M Pakistanis. InshaAllah.”
Dr. Ejaz, who also chairs the Economic Policy &
Business Development Think Tank, has been vocal about aligning economic
policies to promote industrial growth and export competitiveness.
The negotiations come at a time when Pakistan is
seeking to stabilize its economy and reduce its reliance on borrowing by
boosting foreign exchange earnings through trade.
The successful tariff talks could pave the way for preferential access to the US market, enhancing the viability of Pakistani products and giving a much-needed push to the country’s manufacturing and export sectors.
