Pakistan, U.S. discuss railway partnerships to boost connectivity

September 22, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and the United States have explored opportunities to enhance regional connectivity through Pakistan Railways, focusing on partnership, investment, and employment prospects.

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker met with Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, where she was briefed on the sector’s strategic plans, according to APP.

Abbasi highlighted ongoing development initiatives under the prime minister’s vision, including digitalization, agreements with waste management companies, and improved station cleanliness.

He also shared details of infrastructure upgrades such as CIP lounges, modern waiting areas, escalators, advanced monitoring systems, and free Wi-Fi at 40 major stations.

Abbasi stressed that railway partnerships would drive investment, job creation, and stronger bilateral ties.

Baker acknowledged the sector’s strategic importance and expressed interest in expanding cooperation, while commending the ongoing reform efforts.
