Pakistan, UK to boost bilateral trade with focus on railway sector

June 05, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and the United Kingdom have emphasized joint measures to further strengthen their bilateral trade and economic relations, with special focus on the railways sector.   

This was discussed during a meeting between Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi and British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The meeting discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in the railways sector, as per the press release issued.

The Minister called for a comprehensive strategy between Pakistan and the UK for the development and modernization of railways.

He said Pakistan is ready to fully benefit from the UK's expertise in modernizing the railway infrastructure in the country and improving the performance of this sector.

The Minister said Pakistan is desirous of enhancing collaboration with the United Kingdom for promoting the use of modern technology in its railways sector.

He said the two countries will continue to work on projects of mutual interest in this sector, which will not only benefit the economies of both countries but will also improve public transportation.

The two sides agreed that their bilateral economic cooperation is based on a solid foundation.
