May 12, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Turkmenistan have
agreed to strengthen bilateral trade, expand regional connectivity, enhance
energy cooperation, and deepen institutional engagement between the two
countries.
Both sides emphasized the growing significance of regional
trade corridors, logistics cooperation, and direct business-to-business
interaction, while also exploring prospects for energy sector collaboration and
future infrastructure development aimed at long-term regional economic
integration.
The understanding was reached during a detailed meeting
between Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Ambassador of
Turkmenistan to Pakistan, Atadjan Movlamov, in Islamabad, according to a press
release issued.
Both sides exchanged views on improving commercial
connectivity between Pakistan and Central Asian states, expanding trade routes,
and facilitating smoother movement of goods across the region.
Minister Jam Kamal Khan highlighted Pakistan's strategic
geographic position as a natural gateway connecting Central Asia with regional
and international markets through its seaports.
He noted that evolving regional dynamics and shifting global
supply chain patterns have further elevated Pakistan's connectivity and
logistics potential. The Minister also stressed the importance of organizing
business forums, exhibitions, and interactions between chambers of commerce to
promote direct private-sector engagement.
Ambassador Movlamov appreciated Pakistan's positive approach
towards regional trade facilitation and reaffirmed Turkmenistan's keen interest
in expanding bilateral economic cooperation and strengthening commercial and
transport linkages with Pakistan.
Both sides expressed confidence that enhanced cooperation in
trade, energy, logistics, and private-sector engagement would open new avenues
for economic partnership, and emphasized the need for continued diplomatic
engagement and high-level exchanges to further consolidate
Pakistan-Turkmenistan relations.
