November 25, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Russia are poised for a renewed diplomatic and economic push as both look to strengthen their partnership across multiple sectors.

In a meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to the Russian Federation, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, called on President Asif Ali Zardari, who congratulated him on his appointment and emphasized the importance of Russia as a key partner for Pakistan, according to a press release.

The President urged a comprehensive effort to expand cooperation in political, economic, technological and defense fields.

Noting the recent decline in bilateral trade, he called for revitalizing collaboration in energy, investment, transport and agriculture.

He also highlighted the need for closer engagement with Russian leadership on regional issues, particularly counterterrorism and connectivity.

President Zardari encouraged stronger ties in higher education, research, space, digital technologies and defense production, and stressed outreach to Russian institutions for scholarships and training opportunities for Pakistani students and professionals.

Further highlighting the value of people-to-people exchanges, the President called for promoting cultural activities, tourism, and support for the Pakistani community in Russia.

He emphasized active engagement with Russian media and think tanks to present Pakistan’s perspective more effectively.

President Zardari wished the envoy success and assured him of full support in carrying out his diplomatic duties.
