Russia sees significant potential for expanding trade with Pakistan

October 15, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Russia have pledged to deepen their friendly relations and make effective use of existing bilateral mechanisms to advance cooperation that benefits both sides, with an MoU on combating organised crime also signed during the talks.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, who is on an official visit to Pakistan.

The Prime Minister also witnessed the signing of the MoU on Strengthening Cooperation in Combating Organized Crime, APP reported.

The Prime Minister said he was pleased with the positive momentum in Pakistan-Russia ties and stressed the need to build on it to strengthen cooperation further.

He said collaboration should be widened in areas of shared interest, particularly trade and investment, energy and economic development.

Vladimir Kolokoltsev  said Russia wished to strengthen ties and broaden cooperation in areas of common interest.

He thanked Pakistan for its backing at multilateral forums, particularly the United Nations, and pointed to the considerable room to grow bilateral trade and economic cooperation. He said Moscow was ready to work closely with Islamabad to step up engagement.
