January 26, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Myanmar
have committed to strengthening their bilateral ties through sustained
engagement across multiple sectors for the mutual benefit of both nations.
During an official meeting at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and
Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Than Swe discussed ways to enhance collaboration.
The Myanmar minister, who arrived in Pakistan on Saturday
for a four-day official visit, was warmly received by Senator Dar upon his
arrival, APP reported.
Speaking at the meeting, Ishaq Dar emphasized that Pakistan
places great importance on its relationship with Myanmar and highly values the
long-standing friendship between the two countries.
He acknowledged a gap in high-level visits, noting that the
last visit from Myanmar took place in 2015, while Pakistan’s previous visit to
Myanmar was in 2012 during President Asif Ali Zardari’s tenure.
Senator Dar highlighted that the countries share ties rooted
in history and mutual respect, dating back to the early diplomatic exchanges
after Pakistan’s independence.
He stressed Pakistan’s commitment to practical,
result-oriented initiatives and expressed hope that the upcoming general
elections in Myanmar would contribute to peace, stability, and inclusive
governance.
Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Than Swe, in his remarks, thanked
Pakistan for the warm hospitality and reflected on the historical bonds between
the two nations, forged by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Myanmar’s
independence leader General Aung San.
He noted that successive governments have continued to
maintain this friendly relationship and expressed optimism that 2026, marking
the 77th anniversary of diplomatic relations, would be an opportunity to
further strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.
