PKR strengthens again, hits 195-day winning run vs USD

July 13, 2026 (MLN): PKR has appreciated against the USD for 195 straight sessions, extending its gains to PKR 3.4018 or 1.22 percent.

The rupee added a further 3.08 paisa in Monday's interbank session, settling at 278.02 against the greenback compared to Friday's close of 278.05. The unit moved within an intraday band of 278.20 and 278.00 during the session.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs278.80 for buying and Rs279.10 for selling.

The rupee's gains extended across other major currencies as well. Against the Euro, it firmed by 17.43 paisa or 0.05% to close at 317.72, compared to 317.90 previously. Versus the British Pound, the local unit added 52.79 paisa or 0.14% to settle at 372.43 from 372.95 a day earlier.

The rupee strengthened by Rs1.02 or 0.30% against the Swiss Franc to close at 343.85, while it gained 0.50 paisa or 0.29% against the Japanese Yen to settle at 1.7150 from 1.7200.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the local currency added 2.18 paisa or 0.05% to close at 41.00 from 41.02. It also firmed by 1.41 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to 74.05, and by 0.84 paisa or 0.01% against the UAE Dirham to close at 75.70.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has gained 13.82 paisa against the US Dollar during the current fiscal year, and Rs2.10 or 0.76% since the start of the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark 6-month KIBOR rates remained unchanged, with bid and offer rates holding at 11.33% and 11.58% respectively.
