July 29, 2025(MLN): Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have set an ambitious target to raise bilateral trade to $100 million, while signing three key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to expand collaboration in standardization, investment promotion, and Halal trade.

The decision was taken during the 5th Session of the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC) on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, held in Islamabad.

The session was co-chaired by Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation across a wide spectrum of sectors and accelerate progress on shared economic goals.

The aforesaid agreements are expected to facilitate smoother regulatory alignment and greater commercial exchange.

To realize the $100m trade target, both countries agreed to diversify imports and exports, revive the Pakistan-Kyrgyz Joint Business Council, and organize trade fairs, business forums, and B2B exchanges.

The energy dialogue included Kyrgyzstan's proposal for joint participation in a regional power transmission line connecting Kyrgyzstan, China, and northern Pakistan.

Opportunities in renewable energy, mining, hydrocarbons, and institutional partnerships were also discussed.

Further cooperation was outlined in transport, civil aviation, financial services, education, health, and cultural exchange.

Both sides emphasized the need for regional integration and greater connectivity, with Pakistan showing interest in new air routes and fiber-optic networks linking the two nations.

A roadmap was laid out for boosting connectivity, enhancing logistics, and expanding market access for key industries including energy, pharmaceuticals, and IT.

The session concluded with a mutual agreement to hold the 6th IGC session in Kyrgyzstan, with dates to be finalized through diplomatic channels.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs termed the session a “key milestone” in strengthening Pakistan’s ties with Central Asia and advancing regional economic integration.
