Pakistan, Belarus to expand cooperation in trade, IT, vocational training

September 02, 2026 (MLN):  Pakistan and Belarus have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture, IT, and vocational training, identifying these as priority sectors for future engagement.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, held on the sidelines of the Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek, said a press release issued.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Belarus relations and the robust cooperation across political, trade, economic, defence, and cultural domains, recalling President Lukashenko's visit to Pakistan in November 2024 and the Prime Minister's visit to Belarus in April 2025 as milestones in the relationship.

As the incoming Chair of the SCO Council of Heads of State, the Prime Minister extended an invitation to President Lukashenko to visit Pakistan next year, with both sides reaffirming their resolve to elevate the long-standing friendly ties between the two countries to new heights.

Pakistan has formally assumed the Chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) for 2026-2027, with the tenure to be guided by the theme "Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity."

The next edition of the SCO Plus meeting is set to be held in Islamabad in 2027.
