The steep fall came amid heavy selling pressure at the PSX, triggered by rising geopolitical tensions following the United States’ attack on Iran. This raised concerns among investors, contributing to the market downturn.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed concern over the U.S. strikes, stating that they had targeted facilities operating under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He emphasized that the attacks represented a serious violation of international law and the IAEA Statute.

While acknowledging Iran’s inherent right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, the Prime Minister underscored the urgent need for a return to dialogue and diplomacy.

He further called for collective efforts to de-escalate the situation, reiterating Pakistan’s readiness to play a constructive role in promoting peace.
