July 31, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed Thursday’s trading session on a high note, as the benchmark KSE-100 Index jumped 978.17 points, or 0.71%, to settle at 139,390.42.

Investor sentiment was buoyed by a surprise announcement from U.S. President Donald Trump, who revealed a newly concluded trade agreement between Pakistan and the United States, including plans to jointly develop Pakistan’s oil reserves.

The announcement, made via Trump’s Truth Social account, hinted at potential American investment in Pakistan’s energy sector and even the prospect of future oil exports to India, sparking a rally across key sectors at the PSX.

Exploration and Production (E&P) stocks led the charge, with notable gains in companies such as Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), and Mari Petroleum (MARI), as expectations rose for increased foreign direct investment and technology transfer.

The index remained positive throughout the day, showing an intraday high of 140,215.22 (+1,802.97) and a low of 139,083.74 (+671.49) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 291.21 million shares.

 

Of the 100 index companies 54 closed up, 46 closed down, while 0 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were PABC (+10.00%), SYS (+7.60%), THALL (+6.30%), ILP (+5.89%), and POL (+5.02%).

On the other hand, top losers were GHGL (-3.59%), EPCL (-2.61%), FHAM (-2.53%), BAFL (-2.33%), and YOUW (-2.03%).

 

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were SYS (+308.71pts), OGDC (+177.53pts), POL (+134.68pts), MARI (+103.65pts), and PPL (+97.78pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were FFC (-186.71pts), BAFL (-49.83pts), EFERT (-30.14pts), HBL (-25.31pts), and GHGL (-18.60pts).

 

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+513.64pts), Technology & Communication (+311.29pts), Miscellaneous (+75.89pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (+75.43pts), and Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+68.46pts).

While the index was let down by Fertilizer (-217.16pts), Chemical (-18.33pts), Pharmaceuticals (-16.28pts), Insurance (-11.17pts), and Engineering (-9.40pts).

 

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 86,260.96 with a net gain of 558.00 points or 0.65%.

Total market volume was 577.35 million shares compared to 425.84m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs36.35 billion showing an increase of Rs11.35bn.

There were 322,313 trades reported in 483 companies with 235 closing up, 215 closing down, and 33 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 13,763 points or 10.96% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 24,264 points or 21.08% so far this calendar year.
